Women’s Health Advocate & Wellness Coach Silvana Greenfield talks us through a unique immersive retreat for games industry HR professionals, designed to inspire, rejuvenate, and equip you with the tools to thrive in your high-pressure role…

The gaming industry is known for its relentless pace, innovation, and creativity. However, behind the immersive stories and groundbreaking technology lies a less glamorous reality; crunch times, redundancies, and company closures that have taken a toll on the individuals who keep the industry running, particularly those in HR and Operational roles.
These professionals are often the glue holding teams together during turbulent times, yet they frequently neglect their own wellbeing and place the needs of others above their own.
Recognising this Sarah Brewster, Managing Director and Founder of the Fresh Seed HR, Training and Culture Agency to Games and the Creative Sector, and I are thrilled to be collaborating to offer a transformative wellness retreat specifically tailored for the HR and Ops professionals in our sector.
This retreat isn’t just a break, it’s a holistic approach to restoring balance, reigniting passion, and providing the tools needed to thrive in demanding roles.
Over the past 18 months, the gaming industry has experienced waves of layoffs as studios restructure or downsize. HR teams are tasked with handling these sensitive transitions, balancing empathy for affected employees with the needs of the company. The emotional toll can be overwhelming, as they’re expected to remain strong while absorbing the emotions of others.
Full scale closures have left entire teams displaced and these individuals often shoulder the logistical nightmares and emotional strain that accompany such events. These roles require adaptability, resilience, and tireless effort all of which can lead to burnout.
Gaming production and publishing has always been blighted with intense “crunch” periods, demanding extraordinary effort over extended hours to meet deadlines. While developers and creatives often bear the brunt of this, HR and Operations professionals step in to mediate, manage, and sustain morale leaving little time for their own needs.
So, we’ve designed this retreat in order to turn that on its head. Instead of focusing on supporting others, it’s time for these individuals to focus on themselves.
What to expect:
Community and Connection: Build meaningful relationships with like-minded professionals who understand the unique demands of your industry. Sharing experiences fosters a sense of solidarity and emotional support.
Understand the Pillars of Wellbeing: We explore the importance of mindset, nutrition, movement, and connection. Gain practical strategies to navigate challenging times, unlock personal growth, and achieve sustainable success.
Mindset Reset: Learn how to reframe challenges and cultivate resilience through the 5 C’s: confidence, connection, control, calmness, and care for self through the medium of meditation, journaling and mindfulness.
Movement & Connection: Discover the deeply nourishing practices of yin yoga, breathwork and sound bath, bringing a sense of calm and equilibrium in body, mind and soul.
As with many aspects in life there isn’t a one fits all solution and we’d like to open the door on modalities within the holistic spectrum. Our vision is to create scalable retreat days that can be rolled as part of a broader initiative to support the gaming industry as a whole.
Together with Sarah, we’re committed to creating a safe space where professionals can recharge, grow, and find the inspiration to continue excelling in their roles. It’s time to invest in those who invest in others and this retreat is just the beginning.
Are you ready to prioritise your own wellbeing and reconnect with your purpose?
