Intro to EDI

What is EDI and why is it important?

EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) ensures fair treatment and opportunity for everyone, and is in place to avoid prejudice and discrimination against those with protected characteristics.

Equality

Equality means fairness and giving everyone the same rights, regardless of their background, sex, their beliefs, their age, whether they have a disability or other personal situations.

Diversity

Diversity is recognising, respecting and including people from a range of difference social backgrounds, age, race, belief, gender, sexual orientation and more.

Inclusion

Inclusion means creating an environment where everyone feels welcomed and valued, and are given opportunities regardless of their backgrounds, age, sexual orientation, disability or more.

Why is EDI important in business?

Firstly, ensuring EDI lies at the heart of your studio or company is absolutely the right thing to do!

But there are also some very good business reasons why you should embrace EDI in your company culture. According to ACAS (the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service), a workplace encouraging equality, diversity and inclusion can help:

  • Make it more successful
  • Keep employees happy and motivated
  • Prevent serious or legal issues arising, such as bullying, harassment and discrimination
  • To better serve a diverse range of customers
  • Improve ideas and problem-solving
  • Attract and keep good staff
